Grace is a Teacher

Grace is a Teacher

Titus 2:11-14

11  For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,  12  teaching us that, denying
ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present
age,  13  looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus
Christ,  14  who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify
for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.

Grace is a teacher. It teaches us a lot of important lessons that we need to learn to be faithful
Christians, and to find that spark of courage we need to get through life’s most difficult
obstacles. We think of grace as a gift, which it is, but from grace we have a lot to learn. Just
consider the following lessons:
Verse 12: Grace teaches us to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts. After all, grace is the free gift
of forgiveness and salvation from sin, so that we should no longer obey those desires or
behaviors that caused us spiritual death and condemnation.
Also Verse 12: Because of grace, we can live soberly (think clear minded), righteously (think
pure minded) and Godly (think holy minded) in the present age. That means regardless of the
evil going on around us, grace teaches us to be holy regardless of the changes that evil and sin
would have us embrace.
Verse 13: Grace teaches us to look for the hope of Jesus’ appearance on the final day. The state
of salvation gives us anticipation for that day and makes us excited about our future.
Verse 14: Grace teaches us that Jesus’ sacrifice redeems us from every sin and purifies us in Him
to be His people, hungry for doing good things in His name.

It’s amazing to me that grace teaches us so much about ourselves, about our purpose, and about
Jesus’ relationship with us. If we’re willing to listen, grace is willing to speak. Let’s hear what
grace has to say and live in such a way that we point to Jesus with all our being.

God bless this week,
Michael
