What do you want to hear?
28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am [a]gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. - Matthew 11:28-29
What do you want to hear?
By Michael Orr
What do you want to hear? Said the Lord to me one day
I want to hear that you will take my problems far away
If only you would say to me that trouble is no more
I’d serve you so much better, Lord, much better than before
This is what I’ll tell you, said the Lord as He replied
The problems of your daily life will in your life reside
For when they do you look to me and trust in me complete
To put to rest the darkest night and overcome defeat
What do you want to hear? Said the Lord to me just then,
I want to hear that you’ll ignore the subject of my sin
If only you would tell me yes to all my sinful craving
I’d try to do my very best to curb my misbehaving
This is what I’ll tell you, said the Lord within a breath
If I left you to your sins I’d leave you to your death
For sin cannot be present in a life that’s everlasting
Those things you crave a hollow grave from which you must be fasting
What do you want to hear? Said the Lord as he persisted,
I want to hear that you’ll avoid the lessons I’ve resisted
If only you would lighten up and leave my pride intact
I’d work real hard to change the way I currently react
This is what I’ll tell you, said the Lord with steady beat
The lessons that I teach to you will help you be complete
Be humble now and listen close in all my words invest
Then come to me, you weary one and I will give you rest
