 Rejoicing on This Day

We saw you in the Word, said the prophets from the past,

Virgin born and God in flesh, eternal, first and last,

Your coming was expected, though many turned away,

Yet those who sought your coming are rejoicing on this day.

We saw you in a manger, said the shepherds who had heard,

The angels sang their chorus and were true unto their word,

For in this humble city, we have seen the living Way,

And now we spread the news to all rejoicing on this day. 

We saw you in the star, said the wise men from the east,

The signs were not forgotten, not even in the least,

We bring you gifts abundant, but no riches could repay,

The hope that you have brought us, rejoicing on this day.

We saw you in the temple, said the teachers gathered there,

Your questions were amazing, nothing to them could compare,

We’d never guess the reason for the things you found to say,

For if we knew we’d all be found rejoicing on this day.

We saw you heal the masses, said the twelve you singled out,

To follow you and learn from you, there wasn’t any doubt,

That you are Christ, the chosen one, each one of us will stay,

And see this work until the end, rejoicing on this day.

We saw you on the cross, said the women at the tomb,

For all you called apostles fled within the upper room,

Our hearts completely broken, our future dark and gray,

But little did we know we’d be rejoicing on this day.

We saw you resurrected, five hundred people said,

Our Lord and Savior came to us, now risen from the dead,

Let all the weak and weary, now turn to Him and pray,

That Christ would come and take us home, rejoicing on this day.
