In One Day

29 And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. 30 Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is [i]life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so. 31 Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Genesis 1:29-31

In One Day

By Michael Orr

In one day, we can see the sun creep above the sky in purple hue,

View the reflection on each blade of grass glisten in the morning dew,

Feel the cool air rush to remind us of the respite God ushers in,

Watch a canopy of motion unfolding as we see the day begin.

In one day, we hear the birds chirping their God-given symphony of sound,

Watch the trees rustling in the wind as the leaves take flight all around,

Smell the sweetness of a flower nestled in a garden glowing,

Consider the wonder of seeds turn to buds in the soil where they are growing,

In one day, Humanity hears hundreds of thousands of babies take their first breath in life,

Witnesses two hundred thousand people make a pledge to be husband and wife,

Marvels as billions of souls all around the world work and laugh and play,

Wonders how all of it is accomplished in the span of a single, most ordinary day.

In one day, we witness the sun set upon orange hues of brilliant light,

Gaze at innumerable stars casting twinkling spotlights on the night,

Listen to the crickets play a steady violin of sound as their motion keeps time,

Search for the lighting bugs shining above the meadow in a setting most sublime.

In one day, we observe our creator move the heavens and earth once more,

Look in awe as He rotates our spinning globe just as he’s done countless times before,

And ask if we could but stop to give him glory in the things we do and say,

Imagine if we could begin to fathom all He’s done for us in just one day.
