A Fathers Gift

A Father’s Gift

Father’s Day is one of the only holidays we have where we are doing double honor when honoring the group of men we admire and respect. After all, we all have a Heavenly Father we worship and adore, sing praises to and serve as His children. What I love is that our Father gave us earthly fathers to point us to Him, to give us the teaching and encouragement we need to thrive and grow as we develop our own faith and spirit.

Yet sometimes we have doubts about our Heavenly Father, and part of that is recognizing the inherent imperfections of fathers. We honor and love Godly fathers, not because they are perfect, but because though imperfect they do all they can to honor the role of fatherhood given to them. Yet our heavenly father IS perfect, and that’s what makes us wonder if God will come through for us. As our Father in Heaven, what if God doesn’t give us all we need?

Luke 11:13 deals with this as Jesus is talking about a father not giving a child a scorpion instead of an egg, or a stone instead of a piece of bread. He says, “13 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”

In other words, If our earthly fathers, Godly though they may be, give us that which we need in life, why would God not also do so all the more? If imperfect fathers can consistently do good for their children, why would God who is perfect not give us His Spirit and all that we need to serve and love him?

As we celebrate Father’s Day today, consider our Heavenly Father and the men that God has commissioned to be His examples for their children to follow. Let us honor the men who give their all to raise up Godly children, and honor our Creator who gave His all to bring us to Him through Jesus Christ.

God bless this week,

Michael
