You Tell Me Lord
You Tell Me Lord
By Michael Orr
You tell me Lord to worry not, but worry’s the only thing I’ve got,
To flavor every crushing doubt, that surges in and trickles out,
I’d have to change things in a hurry if I lost my worry.
You tell me Lord don’t be afraid, but fear is all that can be made,
When unknown futures fill my head, with darkened thoughts and nameless dread,
The gathering clouds would be made clear if I lost my fear.
You tell me Lord don’t make excuses, but blaming others has its uses,
For I can hide my daily guilt, behind the lies my pride has built,
I’d be resigned to face my shame if I lost my blame.
You tell me Lord don’t hate my brother, but how else do I wound another?
When they have hurt me in some way, their careless deeds I must repay,
My crooked heart would be made straight if I lost my hate.
You tell me Lord to sin no more, but sin is what I’ve known before,
To give me instant satisfaction, in every human interaction,
I’d have to change my life again if I lost my sin.
You tell me Lord to trust and pray, to do your will, your voice obey,
To follow Christ in word and deed, depend on him for every need,
I’ll find success in all I do when I trust in you.
