Steady Along

Steady Along By Michael Orr

I find myself in a simple boat in waters unforgiving,
For my Lord and I were out to sea on the voyage I call living,
I questioned if the boat was safe, for it seemed to be unsteady,
And he gave an answer to my doubts for which I wasn’t ready,

Steady along, for I am here and you will never fail,
Steady along, for I am near, go forward and set sail.

Now holes appeared within the boat and I was not amused,
And when I asked my Lord for help He patently refused,
He told me I must trust in him and all would be made right,
But more kept springing all around in the thickness of the night,

I looked around to see if there was land that I could swim to,
In case I could not figure out the mess that I was into,
“Lord please, the water rises now and we must go ashore!”
I cried out to him, yet he answered just the way He did before,

Steady along, for I am here and you will never fail,
Steady along, for I am near, go forward and set sail.

In panic I jumped in the sea and swam with all my might,
Yet everywhere I looked there wasn’t any land in sight,
The waves grew strong and threw me hard until I lost my breath,
And as I fought I felt on me the icy hand of death,

And with my final effort I called out to Him again,
Restoring all my faith that I had buried in my sin,
“Save me Lord!” I cried to Him with heart and soul complete,
And Jesus walked up next to me upon the water’s seat,

He lifted me out of the waves and led me to my ship,
The boat restored, as good as new, and ready for our trip,
The holes were gone that I had made with all my doubts defeated,
And then He looked to me again and lovingly repeated,

Steady along, for I am here and you will never fail,

Steady along, for I am near, go forward and set sail.
